Evans, Stacey B. "Whose Stats Are They Anyway? Analyzing the Battle Between Major League Baseball and Fantasy Game Sites." Texas Review of Entertainment & Sports Law 9.2 (2008): 335-351. Academic Search Premier. EBSCO. Web. 16 Nov. 2010.
This article is a great way of describing how much the fantasy baseball has exploded and has grown so much in the past few years. More than 15 million people participate in fantasy sports every year. Virtually all of them use outside sources and service to keep track of stats, roster changes and injuries. This article is showing the amount of time, energy, and research is used in the mass media area so it can be used by the users of the sports. Each user is putting effort into checking out each players stats, percentages, and performance on certain days, against certain teams, and even against opposing pitchers. It is interesting to see the amount of males dominating this "hobby," however, females are starting to become more than just few and far between because of their new love for sports, especially the main 3, baseball, football, and basketball. This has stemmed from being just a small hobby to consuming many peoples lives. Because of the growing popularity, many people at the start of the season will place bets or wagers on their teams, saying that whoever has the best record takes the pot. This has become an obsession and could eventually become and business or a form of income. Many websites have come to pay up some big bucks by hosting contests such as best records or longest winning streak will win "X" amount of dollars.
